Resources for Teachers
Need inspiration and guidance for class sequences? Download these 14 page PDF’s to use as guidelines for theme based classes.
Each manual includes 14 pages of sequences that are listed in Sanskrit. Use “Light on Yoga” by BKS Iyengar, for translation and a visual reference. Each bundle is in a PDF file format and can be downloaded to a PC, tablet or mobile device. I also recommend printing the files to use as a booklet (stapled, spiral bound or in a notebook).
The sequences listed in this guide are intended to allow Level 1 students to practice foundation poses consistently as well as progress to Level 1/2. Each sequence can be adapted to suit the different audiences that comprise Level 1—from seniors to athletic types. The sequences have been developed for 55 minute to 1:30 minute classes. You can adjust to extend the time by including: a longer opening with breath awareness; repeating some standing poses twice; add a restorative pose at the end of class or hold a longer savanna.
Level One/Two introduces many new asanas and offers a bit more variety to your students: Surya Namaskar B and linking poses: balancing poses: and inversions. The basics are still highlighted but students at this level tend to appreciate a little more challenge. I’ve listed sequences that can fit within 55 – 1:30 minute time slots.
Level 2 Sequences
Level 2 can be playful, challenging and creative. These sequences are ideal for 1/2 students and others who are advancing towards 2/3. More vinyasas and a full range of arm balances and inversions are introduced and explored.
Level 2/3 Sequences
Advanced Asanas are introduced in logical sequencing that is challenging and safe. Backbends, Twists, Arm Balances, Inversions and creative approaches to a range of complex asanas.
